About Law Firm Mentor

Law Firm Mentor (LFM) helps small and mid-sized law firms build the systems, people, and market position they need to grow predictably and profitably. Through hands-on advisory engagements, proprietary growth frameworks, and a network of subject-matter specialists, LFM partners directly with managing partners and firm leadership to turn ambition into measurable, sustained growth.

Role Summary

The Technology Director leads Law Firm Mentor’s technology strategy on two fronts: ensuring LFM’s own internal systems, tools, and infrastructure run securely and efficiently, and serving as the firm’s senior technology advisor to client law firms working to modernize their own systems and operations.

This role suits someone equally comfortable architecting internal systems and sitting across the table from a managing partner explaining, in plain language, why a particular tech investment matters and how to sequence it.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own LFM’s internal technology stack, including practice systems, security posture, integrations, and vendor relationships.
Set technology strategy and roadmap in partnership with the COO/CTO, balancing internal scalability needs with client-facing advisory demands.
  • Serve as the senior technology advisor for client law firms, assessing their current systems (practice management, document management, communications, security) and recommending a clear modernization path.
  • Translate technical recommendations into plain-language guidance that managing partners and non-technical stakeholders can act on with confidence.
  • Partner with the Director of AI and Innovation and CRM and Data Systems Manager to ensure technology, data, and AI initiatives are aligned across internal and client-facing work.
  • Evaluate, select, and manage relationships with internal and client-recommended technology vendors and platforms.
  • Establish data security, privacy, and compliance standards appropriate for legal industry clients, and ensure LFM’s own systems meet that bar.
  • Lead technical onboarding and systems implementation support for new client engagements where technology is part of the growth roadmap.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve internal technology issues, escalating to vendors or specialists as needed.
  • Stay current on technology trends relevant to law firm operations and bring forward recommendations proactively.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of technology leadership experience, including direct responsibility for systems strategy and implementation.
  • Experience supporting or advising client-facing technology initiatives, ideally in a professional services or B2B consulting context.
  • Strong working knowledge of practice management, CRM, document management, and security/compliance considerations relevant to law firms.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical executive audiences.
  • Proven vendor management and procurement experience.
  • Comfortable balancing competing priorities between internal operations and client advisory work.
  • Project management discipline, with the ability to scope, sequence, and deliver technology initiatives on time.

Preferred / A Plus

  • Experience with legal-specific technology platforms (e.g., practice management or legal CRM systems).
  • Background in cybersecurity or data privacy compliance.
  • Experience advising small or mid-sized professional services firms through a technology transformation.

How Success is Measured

  • Uptime, security, and performance of LFM’s internal systems.
  • Client adoption and satisfaction with recommended technology solutions.
  • On-time delivery of internal and client-facing technology initiatives.
  • Vendor cost management and contract performance.
  • Cross-functional alignment with AI, marketing, and data teams on shared initiatives.
