About Law Firm Mentor

Law Firm Mentor (LFM) helps small and mid-sized law firms build the systems, people, and market position they need to grow predictably and profitably. Through hands-on advisory engagements, proprietary growth frameworks, and a network of subject-matter specialists, LFM partners directly with managing partners and firm leadership to turn ambition into measurable, sustained growth.

Role Summary

The Director of AI and Innovation leads Law Firm Mentor’s AI strategy across two fronts: building internal AI tooling that makes LFM’s own teams and growth methodology sharper and faster, and advising client law firms on how to responsibly and practically adopt AI in their own practices.

This role is about leverage, not novelty. The goal is to identify where AI can meaningfully improve outcomes — for LFM internally and for client firms — and to drive real adoption, not just experimentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and lead LFM’s AI and innovation strategy in partnership with the CGO and COO, identifying the highest-leverage internal and client-facing use cases.
  • Build and oversee internal AI tools and workflows that improve the efficiency and quality of LFM’s advisory, marketing, and operations work.
  • Serve as the senior client-facing advisor on AI adoption, helping managing partners understand practical, risk-aware ways to integrate AI into intake, client communication, document workflows, and operations.
  • Develop frameworks, playbooks, and training materials that help client firms adopt AI responsibly, with appropriate guardrails for confidentiality, accuracy, and professional responsibility.
  • Partner with the Technology Director and CRM and Data Systems Manager to ensure AI initiatives are integrated cleanly with existing systems and data infrastructure.
  • Evaluate emerging AI tools and vendors relevant to law firm operations and marketing, and make clear build-vs-buy recommendations.
  • Track adoption and impact of AI initiatives internally and across client engagements, refining the approach based on real-world results.
  • Educate internal teams and client firms on the realistic capabilities and limitations of AI, helping set expectations appropriately.
  • Stay current on the AI and legal-tech landscape and bring forward recommendations proactively to leadership.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in technology, innovation, or AI-related roles, with demonstrated ability to translate emerging technology into practical business value.
  • Hands-on experience implementing AI tools and workflows (not just strategic oversight) — comfortable evaluating, piloting, and scaling AI solutions.
  • Strong ability to explain AI capabilities and limitations clearly to non-technical executive audiences.
  • Experience advising external stakeholders or clients on technology adoption, ideally in a professional services context.
  • Good judgment around risk, confidentiality, and professional responsibility considerations relevant to legal industry clients.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to move initiatives from concept to adoption.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-moving, still-evolving space where best practices are not fully settled.

Preferred / A Plus

  • Experience with AI adoption specifically within legal or other regulated professional services industries.
  • Background in legal technology, innovation consulting, or a similar applied-AI role.
  • Familiarity with the data privacy, confidentiality, and ethical considerations unique to client-facing AI use in legal services.

How Success is Measured

  • Adoption and measurable impact of internal AI tools on team efficiency and output quality.
  • Client adoption of recommended AI tools and practices.
  • Quality and usability of AI playbooks, training, and frameworks delivered to client firms.
  • Cross-functional alignment with Technology and CRM/Data teams on shared initiatives.
  • Risk-aware, compliant rollout of AI recommendations across internal and client contexts
